What could I do on a Monday night in April in Kamloops? Nothing really so I decided to take the car, drive 4 hours and get my ass to Vancouver.
It was showtime there because Michael Schenker was playing the Vogue Theater and in my opinion it was a show not to be missed.
If you guys don’t know Mr. Schenker, he is the younger brother of another Mr. Schenker, lead guitarist of a pretty famous band called The Scorpions. I would not mention it if the first Mr. Schenker (Michael) would have not mentioned it couple of times during his 3 hour set. He did….I do.
Not only did he mention it, but he actually mentioned it right off the bat, presenting himself like this: «Hi!!!! My name is Michael Schenker, I am the younger brother of Rudolf guitarist of the Scorpions, my ex band.»
For what I’ve heard after that small intro of his, he doesn’t seem to appreciate his older brother very much. But he is Michael Schenker, and we appreciate how he is regardless.
After paying tribute to his drummer Ted McKenna who passed away tragically in January, he opened the show with one of my favorite Scorpions song, Holiday, a song that he introduced by saying it was his song, before his band took all the credits from him. You can’t be more honest than that.
The Michael Schenker fest then really started. Accompanied on vocals by Gary Barden, Robin McAuley, Doogie White and Graham Bonnet the guitar maestro picked songs from his time in UFO, as well as songs from all his previous projects. The only Scorpions song that was played was Coast to coast. A great set list from the beginning to the end without any glitches. You could tell that those guys were not beginners and knew exactly what to do to make the crowd happy and dancing for 3 hours.
It was too bad that the Vogue Theater was not packed for this rock n roll lesson Michael and his band gave us. You missed something very good on this Monday night in Vancouver.
And to answer your question Mr. Schenker: “Why Rudolf wants to be me?”

Que pouvais-je bien faire en ce lundi soir d’avril à Kamloops? Pas grand-chose pour être honnête. J’ai donc pris mon auto pour faire un petit 4 heures de route pour me rendre à Vancouver. Car en ce lundi, il y avait un spectacle que je voulais voir absolument. Michael Schenker se produisait au Vogue Theater de cette ville que je n’avais pas encore eu la chance de visiter.
Si vous ne savez pas encore qui est Michael Schenker, et bien c’est le petit frère de l’autre Schenker, Rudolf de son prénom et guitariste d’un groupe un brin connu, Scorpions. Je ne vous aurais pas fait cette association de moi-même, mais étant donné que c’est Michael lui-même qui en a fait allusion à maintes reprises durant le spectacle, je le fais également. Non seulement il en a fait allusion, mais il s’est présenté comme tel à la seconde même qu’il nous est apparu sur scène.
«BONSOIR! Je suis Michael Schenker, petit frère de Rudolf des Scorpions mon ancien groupe» De cette phrase, je retiens ceci. Il n’apprécie pas vraiment son grand frère, mais c’est Michael et nous l’apprécions comme ça.
Après avoir rendu hommage à son batteur Tod McKenna décédé en janvier dernier de façon tragique, il a commencé le spectacle avec une de mes chansons favorites de Scorpions, Holiday, chanson qu’il présenta comme étant une de ses compositions, mais que son frère et son groupe en avaient prit tout le crédit. La table était mise.
Enfin le Michael Schenker fest prenait son envol. Accompagné de Gary Barden, Robin McAuley, Doogie White et Graham Bonnet aux voix, la virtuose de la six cordes a fait le pont entre les chansons d’UFO et ses autres projets, mais en ne jouant qu’une seule pièce de Scorpions, Coast to coast, qui a mis le feu au public présent.
Une set list riche de près de 3 heures sans intermission, et qui a fait danser et chanter tout le monde présent du début à la fin. Dommage que le Vogue Theater n’était pas totalement plein, car c’était un spectacle des ligues majeures. Et pour répondre à la question de M. Schenker: «Pourquoi donc mon frère Rudolf veut être moi?”
La réponse est simple. Car tu es très bon.
